SERVICES
Trainings, Consultations, Evaluations, and Special Projects
Animal Care Equipment and Services has been the humane community's best-known equipment supplier for over twenty years. However, ACES offers far more than equipment: we are a resource for animal care staff and their boards of directors on everything from strategic planning and capital campaigns to workshop series that focus on disease control or chemical capture. Whether it's a white collar issue or a rubber boots topic, ACES is enthusiastic about helping those who help animals. Contact ACES at services@animal-care.com for more information.
Executive Leadership
Sometimes changes are made in leadership at the executive level with little or no warning. When that happens ACES can help. We have the capacity to provide interim executive leadership to a humane organization until permanent staff can be found. ACES designees have specific experience in shelter management and interim work. We can also help with the search for a new executive director! Contact ACES at services@animal-care.com for more information.
Humane Headhunting
Organizations looking for a new executive director, director of operations or kennel manager are often forced to look only locally for such a position. However, ACES can provide your organization with a professional search for qualified applicants. We do all the advertising and initial screening, leaving your organization with a list of qualified candidates. Contact ACES at services@animal-care.com for more information.
Workshop Series
Every month ACES will offer several workshops on varied topics in varied places. Chemical Capture in Texas or Shelter Design in Oregon. Disaster Preparedness in California or Animal First Aid in New York. Keep in touch with our training calendar on-line here at www.animal-care.com. Not only do we offer top-of-the-line training in scheduled classes, but we can also offer affordable contract classes directly to your agency. In a contract class, we provide training to your agency on just the topics you need covered. Just send ACES an email at services@animal-care.com about what workshops best suit your organization's needs.
Animal Capture and Handling: 1, 2, 4 and 8 hour formats
This fun and exciting class teaches the basics of safely and humanely approaching and capturing animals. We emphasize the need for gentleness and respect for the animal while stressing the need keeping oneself safe from teeth and claws. Demonstration of for appropriate animal capture equipment and some of the dos and don'ts of using restraint gear. This lecture will touch on chemical capture, but will not instruct on it. Trapping techniques can also be covered in this class as well as how to bait traps based on species and circumstances. Learn how to not get bit, but — if all else fails — how to get bit with the least possible damage.
Chemical Capture: 1, 4, 8, and 8+ hour formats
Capturing an animal using remote immobilization requires appropriate training, anesthetizing drugs and modern equipment. These classes teach that chemical capture is a last-resort to be used only after conventional capture techniques prove impractical. Still, chemical capture is a tool of the animal care and control field and should only be used by properly — trained and — equipped personnel. Learn how to best approach animals, what kind of pharmaceuticals should be used and which to avoid, what kind of projectors are best for companion animals and how to properly dose animals. Learn how powered projectors work and how to properly use different types of darts. See videos demonstrating what can go right or wrong with a chemical capture event. The 8 hour format includes a written test and a certificate of completion.
Field First Aid for Animals: 1 and 4 hour formats
This course recognizes that animal care and control officers are often the first professional on scene in cases of injured animals. Therefore, this course teaches humane personnel how to assess scene safety, triage the patient and how to package the victim for transport. This course strongly focuses on how to keep from being injured by the animal. The student will learn to record vital signs, give basic examinations, and how to properly lift and package animals. Too many people are injured every year by animals needing first aid. Protect both the officer and the animal with the information in this course.
Strategic Planning: 2, 4 and 8 hour formats
Running an organization without a strategic plan is like putting on a play without a script. How does anyone know what to do or when to do it? These energetic and fun workshops will teach the basics of modern strategic planning. Learn about long and short range plans. Learn about how to achieve consensus and why that may be important. See formats that make a short range mean something to your staff on a day to day basis. Learn how to create plans that won't sit on a shelve collecting dust. Great for board of directors and senior staff.
Capital Campaigns: 2, 4 and 8 hour formats
Any non-profit organization considering building a new shelter or engaging in an expensive project should provide their community with the opportunity to contribute financially. This is called a capital campaign. Many capital campaigns in the humane community have been wildly successful because of the strong preparation and homework done by the board and senior staff. Learn about the various steps involved in a capital campaign and how it fits on a timeline. Learn about strategic planning, board development, resource boards, capital campaign managers, private and public campaigns, the 90/10 rule and much more. This is an exciting and fast-paced workshop. This is a must-have contract workshop for any board of directors thinking about building a new shelter!
